Some people recommend GRP electrical enclosures, others say you should opt for fibreglass - but who is right? It can seem terribly confusing.
Luckily, you don’t need to be confused anymore.
GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic and is just another name for fibreglass. The terms are totally interchangeable. Regardless of what industry or which country you’re in, the terms GRP and fibreglass mean the same thing.
FRP is a composite material (like GRP), where high strength fibres (rather than glass) are included in a polymer matrix. They are used in many commercial and engineering applications due to their high strength and light weight. A good example of FRP use is the use of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) instead of aluminum and titanium or high grade steel in aircrafts. We currently do not offer any FRP enclosures, but rest assured, GRP (or fibreglass) is the industry standard for durability in many enclosure use cases.
Because of its light weight and durability, GRP is a go to material for many enclosure manufacturers. You will frequently see it used in roadside enlosures and marine applications. Most UK power networks approved cabinets are manufactured from GRP (and available from us).
